Beeple’s 5000 Days And CryptoPunk Sets On Christie’s Lit The Fuse
Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have been the highlight of the year 2021 so far and the growth just keeps on accelerating. Now, there are a couple of factors behind the majestic rise. However, the record breaking Beeple’s 5000 days $69M sale on Mar 11 at Christie’s - the largest auction house in the world marked the first time that NFTs were acknowledged by the mainstream art community. It was followed by the iconic 9 CryptoPunks $17M sale on May 11 at the same house. Both of these events appear to have lit the fuse for NFTs going places.

Crypto Archeology Is Uncovering Ancient NFT Projects And Deployed Smart Contracts
Owing to the countless NFT projects which have been launched lately, the crypto community has turned it’s attention towards historical NFT projects on Ethereum and even before it! Crypto-archaelogy, as we call it, is gaining momentum and we are “excavating” ancient contracts, some of which even predate the ERC - 721 (Ethereum formal NFT standard).
You can find the list for both Bitcoin / Counterparty and Ethereum based smart contracts / NFT collections. Slowly, we are starting to form a complete picture and are left in wonder by what we are uncovering. For instance, Etheria launched in 2015 and the next (previously thought) Curio Cards NFT project didn’t launch until mid 2017.
It meant that the NFT projects list for 2016 was empty until now. However, a Twitter user Adam McNFT found yet another rudimentary but historically important project Pixel Map.
You can see more details on his time-line, where he details the characteristics, supply and acquisition details for it. You must tread with caution, since like many old projects, it doesn’t have a proper UI and the only way to navigate is through smart contracts - which is risky if you haven’t done it before.
